Hello! Welcome Back!! I hope you all had a great relaxing weekend where ever you are! Something you probably don’t know about me is that I’m really big on comfort and coziness. I am a massive homebody meaning my space is very important to me. I currently live at home with my parents so the only space that is truly mine is my bedroom, and I take a lot of pride in making it feel cozy. That’s where I relax and calm myself, it’s where I watch majority of my show and it’s where I practice my yoga so naturally the atmosphere of my room is very crucial to me. So today I thought I would share with you all the things that I think are essential to a cozy room!
The first thing that I think everyone should have in their room is fairy lights. I have battery operated ones so that I don’t have to worry about adding the the electric bill and they are my favorite part of my room. I first had then at Christmas time on my tree and they added a sense of coziness that I hadn’t experienced in my room before, after the Christmas season was over I decided I wanted to keep the lights so I go a few cheap packs from target and displayed them throughout my room. If you don’t like sleeping in complete darkness they are perfect these would be a perfect addition to your room, because they again give enough light but they don’t disturb you while you’re sleeping. As I mentioned earlier I like to practice my yoga in my room as well, I find I become more relaxed if I do my practice in the dark but since i’m still a beginner and I want to still see my mat and make sure my posture is correct, the fairy lights give off just enough brightness that I can see what I’m doing again without disturbing my peaceful state.
My next essential is candles, man I LOVE candles! If you’ve read any of my monthly favorites you’ll know that my favorite candle is Marshmallow Fireside from bath and body works. Now you can’t get that one at the moment because it’s a fall/winter scent but I’m stocked up for the next two years so I don’t need to worry! Candles are obviously very personal to what type of scents you like, so get something that when you smell it you get this sense of safety. That might sound a bit weird because it’s just a candle but scents really can add a lot to the atmosphere of the room. I myself like really warm musky scents, anything that reminds me of fall, Christmas or fires make me feel really comforted so those are the type of scents I always have burning in my room.
Having open space and clean space may not seem like it’s important because it use to not be to me, but after being in college it became so important. I use to keep my room so messy, clothes everywhere shoes all over the place it was just an absolute mess. I still keep it this way sometimes if I’m being completely honest only difference is that now, it sends my anxiety soaring. As someone who spends a lot of time in her room seeing a lot of clutter makes it really hard for me to relax. I physically can’t go to sleep if my room is messy. Naturally if the first thing you see in the morning is clutter, you are going to start your day with a cluttered mind. Also if I don’t have clean open space, I have nowhere to do my yoga or have my little dance parties which are two things I love doing for myself. Now this could just be something that is essential to me but I do recommend really deep cleaning your room and keeping it that way for a week, that might mean taking a few minutes every night before bed to pick up all the loose end but see if it changes how you feel coming home and waking up to a clean room.
Extra blankets are a *dj khalid voice* MAJOR KEY. I’m sure most of you have heard of those weighted blankets that feel like someone is always hugging you and helps with anxiety. Having extra blankets on your bed can kind of mimic them because the weighted blankets are fairly expensive. I like to put mine over top of my comforter, it adds weight to the plushness of your comforter which is what helps it feel like your more secure. They are also great for when you’re to hot under the covers but to cold out of them. You get the best of both worlds that way, it’s lighter then all your other bedding but still provides warmth!
My last essential is a body pillow or just pillows in general, but specifically a body pillow. They are so versatile that you’ll always be able to find a use for them. Whether you are using it against your head board to give you more back support or if you’re using it as your own personal cuddle bug they add so much comfort and security. I got mine at Target for about 10 dollars but unfortunately not every country has Target so I would check anywhere that sells bedding you can usually find them for a fairly cheap price!
Those are all the things I think are essential to having a cozy room but my biggest tip is to personalize it. Find colors you like and incorporate your interests. Put pictures or posters on your wall of things you like. Have little trinkets or floral arrangements, make it something that you feel safe in. That’s my favorite thing about home decor, you can express yourself and add your personality to what is basically just a couple walls put together. What are your essentials in your room?
