What I’m Thankful For 2018

Hello! Welcome Back! For me and my fellow American’s Thanksgiving is this week. I love Thanksgiving, mainly because it means that I won’t be given weird looks for already having my Christmas decorations up. Besides that I think it’s always nice to take a moment and reflect on everything that you have to be thankful for. You’d be surprised at how much you have, even in the hard times. I do dislike that it takes a holiday for some people to realize they have a lot to be thankful for but, something is better than nothing right? So without further ado, let’s get into what I’m thankful for this year.

Family

So, if you guys have been following me on Twitter, Instagram or read my latest post you’ll know that things have been kind of tough for me lately. I’m not going to get to deep into what’s going on because it’s not really my story to tell but, my brother has been going through some serious health obstacles lately ( I want to make it clear that he’s going to be okay, just not there yet. ) It’s really put things into prospective for me if I’m being honest. I am always thankful for my family, but this chapter of our story as a family changed just how thankful for them I am. You may know that I still live at home, and now with everything going on with my brother he lives at home as well. I think about what it would be like if we weren’t all under the same roof during all of this. There is always a stigma about children over a certain age still living at home but, I couldn’t imagine not living with my whole family during this season of life.

My Brother

I felt I needed to do a separate section to speak on how thankful for my older brother I am. Those who know me outside of just my blog would know that I have always looked up to my brother, I try my best not to show it because I don’t want to seem like the dorky little sister but I have always wanted to be just like him. He’s confident and sure of himself, he’s outgoing and hardly ever experiences anxiety. In my eye’s he’s like a superhero, so knowing all he’s been going through has been really tough. I don’t want to go off on to much of a tangent here but, I HATE seeing my brother sick. It sucks, and I wish I could trade places with him. That being said, I have never been so in awe of someone in my life. The positivity and confidence and appreciation I have seen from him is inspiring to me. Through it all he never takes off his “big brother cape”  and always makes sure I’M okay. He takes time to hang out with me after I’ve been at work all day. He views the work I’m doing with my blog as something bigger than I sometimes allow myself to and tells me how proud of me he is that I’m “in the starting stages of having my own business.” The other day I was texting the family group chat, complaining about how I had wet socks from the weather, how I spilled my Starbucks drink on my sweater and how I had a lot of stuff to do at work. It was all stupid stuff to be complaining about and he texted me back from the hospital saying “Young lady. You and those wet socks better find something to smile about.” Today, I don’t care about being the dorky little sister I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have the brother that I do.

Friends

I know what you’re thinking, my list of what I’m thankful for is really basic. Which I mean you’re right but, the people I have in my life aren’t. The friendships I have in my life have really gotten my through every tough thing that has been thrown my way. Even though I tend to get really lonely because none of my friends really live near me, my friends are really good at reminding me I’m not alone. Some of the most supportive and stable friendships I have are with people on the other side of the country from me.  Whether my friends are acting like my therapist or giving me new recommendations on shows to watch, they are always supporting me every step of the way. I have never been one to have a lot of friends but, as I get older I’m really coming to realize that it’s not about the quantity of friends but the quality. I’ve hit a home run when it comes to quality friendships.

My Blog

I couldn’t write this post without speaking about my blog. My blog and I have been on a bit of a journey, I started my blog as a free site here on WordPress at the end of 2016. I would post like once every three months or something like that, I wasn’t consistent at all and my writing was terrible. Then I started to take it a little more seriously and upgraded to the personal plan somewhere in late 2017. I had a different domain than what I do now and I only wrote about beauty. (RIP Makeup With Mich)  Then in March 2018, the Simply Michelle that you all know (and hopefully love) was born. That was when I started thinking of my blog as a business, because that’s ultimately what I want it to become. I knew that blogging was what I wanted my career to be and that I had more to say than just what I thought of certain foundations. I knew I could help people and make someone feel like they had a friend who understood them. (hopefully I achieved this? Let me know in the comments!) So, I expanded my topic of discussion and became more active on social media platforms, that’s when I started to see a growth in my blog. It was slow growth for sure but it was growth none the less. My blog has helped me in ways that I can’t even begin to explain. As someone who struggles really badly with low self confidence and crippling self doubt seeing growth in my blog was overwhelming. Simply Michelle is my greatest love and the biggest passion in my life. Not to sound like a Hallmark movie but, my blog saved my life.

While seeing growth was wonderful and reassuring, that wouldn’t have been possible without the blogging community showing me support. You can’t grow if no one is reading your work and I have been overwhelmed with the support I’ve seen from people who have never met me. So because of that I want to give a shout out to some bloggers that I am really thankful for. This group of bloggers have showed me nothing but constant support, no matter the social media platform and I want to make sure they get all the recognition they deserve.

Well there you have it, a round up of what I am thankful for this year. Can you tell that I have a thing from Lifestyle blogs? I  mean I would hope I enjoyed lifestyle blogs since I run one myself! As I mentioned earlier I think it’s important to reflect on all the good things you have in your life. There is definitely a lot more that I could touch on but I don’t want this post to get too long. What are you thankful for this year? If you celebrate thanksgiving, leave me your favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner in the comments. Mine is mashed potatoes, I make damn good mash potatoes if I do say so myself. Thanks for stopping by, until next time..

Be Nice. Be Good.
