Fall & Winter Plus Size Fashion; The Importance of Dressing for Yourself.

Hello! Welcome Back! I hope you’re all having a wonderful week so far! This post is gonna be like nothing I’ve ever done on my page, but one that I think is really important for me to do. Not just for others but mainly for myself, it pushes me very far out of my comfort zone and I need that. Over the past couple of years, my love for shopping and dressing nicely has drastically faded. Due to bad choices in college and mental illness, I gained weight officially putting me in the plus size category. It took me a long time to come to terms with that, I’m still not comfortable with it sometimes. It’s not because I think their is something wrong with being plus sized, I don’t at all. Honestly, I’m so envious of woman who are confident in their bodies. However, I feel like i’m making progress with love for my body which is why I wanted to make this post.  I will be showing you some of my favorite outfits for Fall and Winter while also speaking on the importance of dressing for yourself.

The first look I’m gonna be sharing is something you can find me in at least once a week. A chunky knit turtleneck sweater slightly tucked into high waist leggings. Pair it with some simple booties and a cross body bag and you have a nice put together outfit with minimal effort. You’ll notice as this post goes on, I like putting in minimal effort. The sweater being tucked into the high waisted black leggings creates the illusion of longer legs which is figure flattering. img_9015

Sticking with the theme of simplicity, layering is something I always like to incorporate to my fashion sense. Taking a simple black dress or any solid color and pairing it with a tied up flannel is an easy way to add some flair to an otherwise boring outfit. What I really like about this outfit is again how figure flattering it is. On my body shape, something cutting in right under my chest creating the illusion of an hourglass figure is extremely flattering on me and most plus size woman. You could also pair this with some tights and ankle booties to complete the look.

A pair of blue jeans that make you feel good are a staple for me. They allow you to create so many different looks from casual to more dressed up. For me, a pair of distressed jeans make me feel confident. They add a little something extra to the outfit in my opinion, or I could just be living out my high school dreams since my parents never let me own distressed jeans. Either way, I love pairing either cardigans or sweaters with all my jeans this time of year. Again pair it with a cross body bag and your shoes of choice and you’re good to go! For myself I would either wear these ankle booties I’ve been referring to all post or some simple vans.

Like with the first outfit, this is also an outfit you can find me in at least once a week. I have this dress in at least 4 different colors/patterns, I call it my confidence dress. This dress makes me feel like I’m on top of the world which is a foreign feeling. I love where this dress falls and just overall how it fits on my body. It’s the perfect outfit for me to wear to work because I look so put together yet, it only takes me .5 seconds to get dress in the morning meaning I get to sleep in later. Toss on a warm scarf and a bookbag and you’ll be ready to take on your day like the girl boss you are!

I mentioned above that I also wanted to touch on the topic of the importance of dressing for yourself. This is something I feel very strongly about as a plus size woman in her mid 20s. Living at home I use to feel really guilty about buying myself new clothes. I felt that since I lived with my parents and “was fat” I didn’t deserve to look nice. For that reason I ended up wearing the same 3 pairs of black leggings and black hoodie basically every single day. I felt like that outfit made me disappear which is what I thought I should do so no one would see my larger body. Everywhere I went I wore this same “uniform” of invisibility so no one would have to be inconvenienced by my size. Obviously it didn’t make me invisible it just made me more depressed. Then my best friends college graduation came around. I knew I was going, I’d been planning to go to her college graduation since we were 8 years old. Granted we thought we’d both be graduating from the same school at the same time because how could we EVER possibly not be together for longer then 20 minutes?? Thankfully we found a way to carry on and it was now her day but all I could think about is how I had nothing to wear that I felt good in. It kept me up at night, knowing she’d forever have photos of her and I that I felt ugly and “fat” in. I couldn’t let that happen so I went on a mission to find something I liked. I ended up finding something that didn’t break the bank and even got compliments on it, that’s when things switched in my mind. It IS okay to buy stuff for myself, I CAN look nice in things even if I’m plus sized. I slowly started to grow my wardrobe, picking up some staple pieces here and there and incorporating items that I had hidden away because of self doubt. My mental clarity changed so much just because of the outfits I was wearing. I’m not saying it cured my depression because of course it didn’t, and ultimately I still love my black hoodie and black leggings but investing in myself and my style has helped make me more confident in every aspect of life. I’m no longer afraid to stand up for myself and the purchases that I make. I no longer let my fear of what people think of my body stop me. Thick thighs save lives my friends. Every body type is beautiful, and everyone should celebrate their bodies.

I hope this post gave you some inspiration either in fashion or in being nicer to yourself. Loving yourself and your body is not a quick fix, and I still have way more bad days than I would like but it’s about putting in the work to overcome those toxic thoughts you’re telling yourself. Let me know down below in the comments what are your fashion must haves? Which out of those outfits do you like the best? Thank you for stopping by, until next time..

Great post and thank you for putting the effort into all the photos! I too slide into the plus size categories. I started working out over the last year and teeter, but havent worked out in three weeks because of stress and work. Yesterday I felt soooo crappy in everything I tried on. I also feel like as confident as you may be in your body, it’s still difficult to find well fitting clothes for the hips and chest. I loveeeed your outfits, all of them were super cute and you gave great tips. I also have a similar black and white stripped dress that is my go to for when I feel like nothing looks good. BTW you look stunning in all your photos!

    Cheers xx
