Best Of Beauty 2018: Makeup,Skincare & Haircare

Hello! Welcome Back! I can’t believe the year is almost over, I swear the older I get the faster the year goes. When I first started my blog, I was a beauty blogger and while I no longer categorize myself as a beauty blogger, beauty is still something I’m incredibly passionate about. Today I wanted to talk you through my favorite products from this past year. I’m going to be covering everything beauty, including makeup, skincare and haircare. 99.99% of these products I found this year but, there’s maybe one or two that I found in previous years and have still loved all throughout this year. This post is gonna be a long one so, let’s just jump into it.

Makeup

Majority of my beauty favorites are coming in the form of makeup this year. I actually had a pretty good year with makeup, while there weren’t too many launches that had me super excited I found products that have become staples in my routine and I have not been without them since finding them. Maybelline really wow’d me this year with the products they have. Maybelline has always been my favorite drugstore brand and that rang very true for this past year as well. Their Fit Me Loose Face Powder, has blown me away. I set my under eyes literally every single day I wear makeup, even if I don’t set the rest of my face my under eyes and eyelids must be set. This powder goes on so smoothly and locks things in place without giving you the appearance of having a lot of powder on. Before I say this next bit let me say I’m not old, but I am getting older which means so is my skin. I’ve got a few more lines on my face than when I was 19 so it’s important for me to find a powder that doesn’t make things look heavy or make me look older than I am. I’ve been through at least 3 containers of this powder and I simply can’t live without it.

Going to be giving another shout out to Maybelline for their Dream Cushion Foundation. This past year I’ve learned how much my skin likes light coverage foundations. I’m a glasses wearing meaning it’s inevitable for me to get those horrid bunches of foundation on the side of my nose from my glasses, but lighter coverage products make that issue more manageable. What I love about this foundation is how much it looks like your actual skin, it has a luminosity to it that looks like your skin is glowing without making you look greasy or sweaty. The only downfall is how fast you seem to go the product but, it doesn’t break the bank so it’s something I feel comfortable repurchasing.

I have one more foundation favorite from this year, and it’s another light coverage product. I’m not going to stay on this product long because I talked about it in my October favorites not too long ago, but the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue has basically been all I’ve worn since I got it a couple months back. I’m actually running low so I’ll need to pick up a new tube but it’s the perfect foundation for the winter. My skin gets drier during the cold months, I mean obviously there’s hardly any moisture in the air meaning there’s no moisture in your skin! This product puts moisture back into your skin while still giving you a little protection from the sun.

So this one is kind of cheating, because this product was released last year but a new shade was released this year. The Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb particularly in the shade Fu$$y is beyond incredible. I did a review on some of the products I picked up back when Fenty Beauty first hit the scene and I was blown away by the lip gloss. The formula of this new shade is the same as the original which I was so happy about. What I really love is the color, it’s a light pink with some shimmer and it just makes your lips look…juicy but not overpowering, does that make sense? I hope it does because I don’t know how else to explain it. I’m going to be living in this gloss all winter long.

Last makeup favorite for the year, I’m also not gonna spend a lot of time on because I also spoke of these products in my October Favorites. The Dior Backstage Filter Contour & Highlighter Palettes are an absolute staple for me, which kind of sucks because they are a little pricey. The powders just blend out so effortlessly which is super important to me when using a contour palette because of how fair I am. Then, with the highlight palette it gives you a blinding highlight without bringing attention to any texture that you might have.

Skincare

Well this is where you guys find out how rich I think I am, key word think because I’m actually broke as can be 75% of the time. My first skincare favorite from this year is Sunday Riley Good Genes. To be fair, the bottle that I currently have was in a gift set that was only about 25 dollars so it’s not too bad. However the full size is literally over 100 dollars so I’m gonna make this bottle last as long as possible. What I like most about this product is how well it exfoliates your skin. It’s a lactic acid which is a chemical exfoliator, which my skin does really well with. Literally give me all the acids because my skin will loooove them.

Skincare is one thing that I do believe splurging on, it’s not that you can’t get good products for an affordable price but I think the ones with a high price tag are still worth it. I’ve tried a lot of moisturizers over the last few years, this year the stand out for me is the Kate Somerville Goat Milk Moisturizer. I love everything from the packaging to the formulation of this product. Obviously the formulation is more important and what essentially will lead me to repurchase but, nice packing always helps. I love how hydrating this product is, especially at this time of year. I really enjoy that this product is formulated for sensitive skin, so when I use my powerful serum by Sunday Riley this moisturizer isn’t going to irritate my skin.

I’m going to cheat again and tell you about a face mask that i’ve been loving for probably two years now. The L’oréal Clear and Comfort Clay Mask, is my favorite face mask of all time. I really enjoy all of the L’oréal clay masks but I’ve already been through almost two full tubs of the clear and comfort mask. Something that turns me off from clay masks is how hard they can be to even spread out and how difficult they are too take off. None, and I mean none of that happens with this mask. A little goes a long way with this mask and it spreads out so smoothly. I really appreciate how easily it comes off, because I don’t like having to really scrub at my skin…that causes wrinkles and I don’t want wrinkles lol!

Haircare

The beauty supply store that I work at mainly sells professional haircare, meaning I try a lot of different hair products. I have found an absolute stand out routine that my hair literally could not thank me enough for. The Moroccanoil Extra Volume Shampoo & Hydrate Conditioner. I have fine hair, which is why I use the Extra Volume shampoo but I have always found that volumizing shampoo’s can make your hair fairly dry. To counteract that, I use a hydrating conditioner to ensure that my hair stays silky. I also have used the extra volume conditioner, which is what’s pictured below. Personally, I prefer the hydrate conditioner but if it’s out of stock or we only have one left on the shelf, I’ll save it for a customer and get the extra volume conditioner. I really like that this product is free of sulfate, phosphates and parabens which makes these products great for those with colored hair.

My last favorite for the year is a hair tool that I did not expect to love as much as I do. My mom had purchased the Revlon One Step Volumizer Hair Brush. This product is a hair dryer & hair brush all in one, talk about a life changer. My mom had purchased this for herself but quickly found out that her hair was too short for it, which was a win for me. I have always wondered how hair stylists give you that nice blown out look with a round brush and hair dryer. Finally I am able to get that great blown out look all on my own. This tool has eliminated the need for me to flat iron my hair after blow drying it. Honestly, if I didn’t wake up with pillow hair I would be able to just use this tool and not have to style it until the next time I washed my hair.

Phew, we’ve made it..1600 words later and we’ve come to the end of my beauty favorites for the past year. Most of the products have been spoken about in some of my other favorites throughout the year, which you can find all of them under my favorites tab. So if you want some more in-depth information on any of these products be sure to check out my previous monthly favorites. What products have you loved this past year? Let me know down below so I can check them out in the new year! Thanks for stopping by..until next time,

Be Nice. Be Good.

  3. It’s absolutely crazy how big the world of beauty is as I have tried SO many products but never any of these! I do love Maybelline and some of their products are so fabulous (especially Lash Sensational!) but I really do wish they’d hurry up and go cruelty-free! I still really need to try something from Fenty Beauty and I’ve really gone off of matte formulas so I think I might actually give the gloss a go!

    1. honestly, then not being cruelty free is the only negative thing i have to say about the brand. they really do need to hurry up with that, hopefully in 2019 they will change that! i love the lash sensational, i can’t believe i didn’t mention it in this post! there’s just too many beauty products to remember lol xx

  4. Can I just say first that all your pictures are so pretty!! All of these products sound wonderful, I’ll admit I haven’t tried any of them before, the lip gloss looks so pretty though, I might have to have a lil look at that and maybe buy myself a Christmas present.. ♥️

  5. I was smiling so much when you said you started as just beauty. In the beginning, my blog was only about skincare! Things change 😂. I’ve never tried any of these! I’ve heard amazing things about the fitme powder but I’ve never seen it in my shade here. Not even sure if we sell it (should probably check). I’ve always wanted to try Good Genes but the law about acid concentration changed here recently and they make it with glycolic here now which my skin usually hates. I need to get my hands on the US formula. Great post! x

    1. oh my gosh, i didn’t know that there are different laws about acid concentration. how crazy! i’m going to be so sad when I run out because there’s no way i can afford the full size!

  6. I love reading these type of posts because so many products get mentioned that I haven’t heard of or tried before! The Maybelline ‘Fit Me Loose Face Powder’ sounds like it’s something that I should look into to – it sounds amazing! I use the Bare Minerals pressed powder at the moment and it’s really good, I do want to try out their foundation though. The Complexion Rescue one sounds really good!

  7. I used a Fit Me! powder this year and absolutely loved it too! It wasn’t the loose powder but this one looked brilliant in Summer when I was fake tanning 🙂 Your photos in this post are lovely too! xxx

  8. I am DYING to get the one step volumizer hair brush. I loath drying my hair, I actually don’t do it anymore so this would be perfect because I always brush my hair and maybe it wouldn’t feel like so much of a task. I also really want to try out some Fenty Beauty products, I will be going to read your review!
