It’s Time For a Change

Hello! Welcome Back! I hope this week is treating you well so far! This past weekend I made a kind of drastic change to my look, and went brunette. Like full on brunette, which after being blonde for the past couple years has taken some getting use to. Today, I wanted to talk about the significance behind coloring my hair. Like in my plus size fashion post where I spoke about the importance of dressing for yourself, there is an importance behind coloring your hair. I’m also going to let you guys in on a few of my favorite hair products to maintain the health of your hair once you color it. So without further ado, let’s jump into it!

I first want to make it clear that I am not advocating coloring your hair to hide from your self esteem problems if you have them. Trust me, it’s not going to make them go away. I feel beautiful when I change my hair color absolutely, however my beauty does not stem from what color my hair is. What I love most about changing my hair is having that form self expression and experimenting with what I think will be flattering on me. It makes me feel confident, because I know that brunette, short hair is complimentary of my skin tone and my blue eyes which are my best feature. While I do fully support that type of change because hello, I just did it myself that initial feeling of change does fade. That’s why I want to make sure that my readers know coloring your hair, is not going to suddenly make you love yourself. For me getting my hair done gives me that push I need and allows me to put my best foot forward so, I make sure to not let things get in the way of that. If you follow me on instagram than you may have heard me refer to this new style as my #bossbabe hair style, and that it truly is. When I was looking in the mirror I wasn’t seeing a boss woman. I was seeing someone who was doubted herself and her creativity, someone who was feeling bored so I decided to change that. My trip to the salon was the pep in my step that I needed to make this year my best yet. I’ve had a shift in my mindset and honestly feel like I could rule the f’ing world. That’s why treating myself to a nice day at the salon is so important to me. It doesn’t fully change how I feel about myself but it enhances the feelings that are there, just hidden. It reminds me that those good feelings about myself don’t need to be hidden.

I sure hope that made sense and it didn’t sound like this giant ramble about something superficial, because I know there’s more to it than what’s on the outside. Sometimes though, the outside can help what’s on the inside shine through. Okay, okay I’m done with my philosopher talk about hair color. I want to share with you some of my favorite products to maintain the health of colored hair. It’s no secret that coloring your hair is damaging, however there are many products you can use that will certainly minimize the damage and help it appear healthier than maybe it really is. I’m very proud that the health of my hair has stayed as good at it is, and it’s down to the products that I use.

The first product that I absolutely love for colored hair is the Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Hair Mask. I can’t tell you guys how much I love this hair mask, I am always a little worrisome trying out hair masks because I have such fine hair. My hair is flat enough on it’s own, I don’t want the products I use to add to that. However, this mask doesn’t weigh my hair down at all! I like to concentrate it on my ends because whether you are using a hair mask or just regular conditioner, you want to make sure to keep it away from the roots.I have found that conditioner on your roots is what makes your hair look greasy and heavy, and I’ve not met anyone yet who likes that look.

I also love using the Briogeo Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner. What I really enjoy about these products is that I know I’m not putting really harmful stuff into my hair. Sephora, which is where you can purchase Briogeo products has this seal of approval almost that indicates if a product is considered “Clean.” To give you an exact definition of what that is, I went to the Sephora website and found this;

Clean at Sephora™ is formulated without:
Sulfates SLS and SLES, parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, triclosan, triclocarban. All skincare, hair, and makeup brands with the Clean Seal have less than one percent of synthetic fragrances.

Getting my hair done isn’t cheap by any means, so I want to take care of it and it’s really nice to know that all of those ingredients aren’t in the products I use. Also, it makes me feel kinda worried about all the products that DON’T have the clean seal. Is it just me or does it make you squirm a bit knowing some of the products you may have been using have formaldehyde’s in them which is the same thing that’s used to preserve dead bodies. Just sit with that thought for a moment… gross. Anyways, these products I’ve mentioned don’t have any of those gross ingredients so while they are more expensive, they’re overall better for you.

Well there you have it! That’s my big change for the start of the new year. I’m just gonna keep running with the fact that changing my hair color is the ONLY type of change I won’t avoid like the black plague. Baby steps, here. Have you ever colored your hair before? What are your favorite products to care for it? Do you get this new found confidence when you color your hair? Let’s keep the conversation going in the comments. Thanks for stopping by…until next time,

Be Nice. Be Good.

    Oh wow, you look stunning as a brunette (not that you weren’t gorgeous before though!). I know what you mean about colouring your hair, it can make such a difference to your skin tone and make up too, everything changes, which is often a good thing. I’m glad you’ve found some great products to care for your new colour too, they sound amazing and quality usually lasts a lot longer than cheaper products as you need less. 6. Your hair looks lovely both colours and those products look great. Sometimes we’ve just gotta do that something for US. Whether that’s travel or colour our hair and it really doesn’t matter what others think. I was always the most confident when my hair was blonde xxx

    1. thank you jenny! I completely agree! ooh you should go back to the blonde xxx

  7. Having confidence in yourself is key to being able to any major switch. If you are making a change of hair color or any other type of change permanently or otherwise if you are running from the problem it will only follow you.

    1. completely agree, you should never make a change thinking it’ll fix a problem or suddenly give you constant confidence but if you just happen to be in a rut a change can help you get out of it. x

  8. […] included in the box, this product being on of them. If you guys read my post where I talked about how I care for my colored hair, you’ll have seen that I’ve been loving products from Briogeo so I was really excited […]
