Top 3 Things That Will Take Your Blog to the Next Level

Hey babes! How are you guys? Last week I mentioned that I have been experiencing a lot more creativity than I’m use too. Thankfully I’m not ignoring it and I’m creating more content than I usually do. In making all this content, I started to think about what’s most important if you want to take your blog to the next level.

Now my blog isn’t my source of income by any means, but hopefully one day it will be. For that to happen I need to focus on the things I can control as of now that will show my blog in the best light. With so many things to stay on top of within the blogging industry how do you know what is the most important? What aspects can you control that will help take your blog to the next level?

Blog tools

Theme

One of the most important things to focus on when wanting to take your blog to the next level is your theme. This is the first thing people will see when viewing your blog. It’s essentially the first way you express yourself. The theme you choose is going to become a large part of your branding as a business. The key things to consider when picking a theme are, is it easy to navigate? Can you easily read the font? Are the colors overpowering and distracting? Does it offer enough white space?

I just recently changed the theme on my blog, and I’ve never been happier with how my page looks. I’m currently using a theme from BlossomThemes, and would recommend them to anyone who can upload a theme with their plan/host.

Graphics

This is another area that I have been trying to explore more and get more creative within. The graphics you use throughout your blog is going to help set your apart from everyone else. Having your readers be able to remember you by the graphics on twitter or pinterest that you have associated with a post will make a lasting impact for your blog. There are a lot of tools on the internet now a days that help making your graphics a priority really simple.

If photography isn’t your strong point, or just not possible for your current situation you can still have memorable graphics. Using tools like stock photos and apps like Canva will make creating graphics not only simple, but fun. I don’t know about you but I much rather read a post that includes images and associates that post with specifically created graphics.

Blog Setup

Content

I know this one seems like a obvious one, and I mean it kind of is but hear me out. The content that you write is really the meat & potatoes of blogging. It can easily be and often is, the determining factor between staying where you’re at and advancing to that next level.

It’s important that you only write content you WANT to write. Your readers are smarter than you think and they can pick up on it when you’re being fake. Along side of writing content you want, you should run a SEO analysis on each post before you post it. With the WordPress business plan (what I currently have) you are able to install a SEO plugin. This plugin will give you a run down on the readability of your post and if it’ll perform well in search engines. Having an SEO plugin can help make one of the more difficult aspects of blogging seem more user friendly.

Authenticity is Key

The biggest takeaway I want you guys to have is that while all three of the things I mentioned above can help take your blog to the next level. The most important and really the biggest thing that will set your blog apart is that you’re being yourself. Being authentic and having that come through in your theme, your images and your writing is something no one else can recreate. You have more to offer than you may think. If you believe in your vision, everything else will fall into place.

What do you think is the most important thing to take your blog to the next level? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for stopping by, until next time…

Be Nice. Be Good.

    1. of course you haven’t done too much damage, you haven’t done any damage at all! your blogging journey is all about learning and evolving.

these are some easy seo tools you can incorporate (maybe you already do): make sure your sentences aren’t too long, use headings and subheadings, link to previous posts and throw in at least one image even if it’s just a stock photo.

  8. Themes have been on my radar a lot since the whole Pipdig thing went down and finding a new one that felt like ‘me’ was so hard so I totally get where you’re coming from in terms of personal branding. I really need to invest a little more time into finding a graphics style I truly love. It’s great that the creativity is still flowing for you! x

Love this post! It’s so helpful for those still trying to figure out blogging, myself included. Another suggestion for graphic making is to use Pixlr online editor. It’s a little more technical in a way similar to photoshop and can be a really good tool for people looking to achieve something different.

    1. that’s a great tip! i have been looking into getting more into the graphic design side of blogging so I will have to check out that site! thank you! xx

  12. I am in the middle of sorting my blog out and putting better pictures in/ rewriting old posts. It’s effort but hopefully it will pay off.

    1. yup! i’m the same, I would use just pictures from goggle and feels a bit amateur now. That’s the fun of blogging, you can physically see how your talent has grown and evolved xx

  18. Really enjoyed this and I do love the design of your site. Aesthetics are so important. My favorite takeaway from this post – “Your readers are smarter than you think and they can pick up on it when you’re being fake.” This is so true!

    1. thank you! that means a lot because redoing the theme was a bit of a headache since i’m now super tech savvy lol! xx

    1. thank you for reading! I’m glad you found it helpful xx

  20. These are such great pieces of advice for those starting blogging. The only this I can add is don’t put too much pressure on yourself. So long as you write for yourself then you’re already succeeding Bx

    http://www.babblesnbooks.wordpress.com

    1. yes 100% agree! if you start a blog for anyone else besides yourself you’re gonna burn out quick because there is so much that goes into it. great point! x

  21. This is such good advice. I’m off to look at those themes right away! I’m looking at going self hosted soonish, and I love browsing pretty themes! Also, authenticity is so important to me, especially when writing my blog posts. It really makes me feel like I’m being more relatable for others!

    1. oh that’s so great on self hosting! congrats, that’s a huge step! and yes, it can be kinda hard to know people when you’re just reading their writing but if their writing all has the same tone to it then you can kinda get to know who you’re following better xx

  22. What a great post! I’m sure this will go a long way for many people. I can resonate with all three tips!

    1. thank you so much!! i’m glad you found it helpful! xx

  23. Emily Ann says:

Yes! This was so so helpful! I’m still learning to use Canva (for some reason it’s always a pain to use for me. But maybe it’s just ME who’s the problem, lol). And I used to feel terrible about not having good photos and using stock photos, but now I think, who cares?? It makes my blog look better and more professional! And you’re so right, authenticity is THE key. As someone who’s not great at photos/graphics and other things a blogger SHOULD be, I at least know my content is something I believe in and I hope others think so too. But I know I can always improve. Thanks so much for the list! It was really helpful!

    1. love this comment! thank you! i completely agree with what you said about stock photos. heck i used them in this post! as long as you follow the guidelines set by the photographer there is nothing wrong with using them! also canva does have a little bit of a learning curve. I still get frustrated with it from time to time xx

  24. Such brilliant and useful advice here. Especially love the photograph advice as that’s my weakest point

    1. that’s amazing! enjoy your blogging journey xx
