Blog Photo Props & Where To Get Them

Hey guys! Hope you’re well! I’m not sure anyone has noticed but I’ve been trying to improve my blog photography. A couple weeks ago I did a post on how to take your blog to the next level. One of the things I mentioned was Graphics. Whether that be by photos you take or by stock photos, graphics are important. I still stand by that. However, if you do want to try taking your own photos there are some things that can help make them more appealing to the eye.

When you hear someone talk about photo props, you might worry that it’s gonna end up costing you a lot. That was my worry but, you don’t really have a lot to spend. Today I’m gonna share with you some of my favorite props to use in blog photos and let you know where you can get them. Especially if you’re on a budget like myself. I also want to point out that, I don’t have a fancy camera I use my iPhone Xr.

Plants/Flowers

Greenery like succulents or flowers are a great way to add something to your photos without breaking the bank. They add a sense of depth and texture to what otherwise would be a flat photo. You have two options on how you use greenery in your photos. You can either use real flowers that you pick from your backyard. Or you can use a fake succulent that costs about 5 dollars at your local home decor store. The succulent I use in majority of my photos was from home sense and I believe I paid about $4.99 for it. So not only does greenery work great for photos, but it’s also something you can use in your everyday decor, getting more bang for your buck.

Stationary

My favorite thing to use in blog photos is stationary. Even when I’m using stock photos, it’s usually of stationary because their is something so clean about notebooks and pens. The best thing about this is, again you have one more use for it. I have notebooks and planners that I constantly use in blog photos & in my everyday life. I recently picked up a package of paper clips, thumb tacks and, binder clips for about $6.00. You can sprinkle them around to fill awkward white space without them being the focus of the photo.

You can do the same with sequences from your local craft store for about $5.00. Having a pack that you can reuse in different photos, allows you to start creating a theme for your photography. They come in many different colors, so find one that you feel represents your brand. You’ll have a little extra color, and sparkle. Which who doesn’t love a little sparkle!

Fairy Lights

My second favorite thing to use in blog photos are fairy lights. These add a warmth and sense of home to your photos. I prefer flatlays that look more inviting and cozy, which fairy lights contribute too. Again, these are also really cheap. I have a bunch displayed around my room and depending on where I take the photos, I can incorporate the ones I already have up. Otherwise, you can get a string for around $5.00 and be set for life.

You could also use an old string of Christmas lights. If you have a strand where half the bulbs are out but the other half works fine, place the working side around the objects in your photo. Again, this fills white space without being the focal point of the photograph.

Bedding

The last prop I like to use in my photos is blankets and different forms of bedding. The best part about using blankets is, you don’t need to spend any money! Take any blanket, sheet, or comforter and add it to the corner of your photos. Like with the greenery this adds a bit of texture to your picture which helps make it look less one dimensional. I personally love fluffy blankets, like the pink on you guys see in almost all my original flatlays.

Have fun with it

I think it’s a lot of fun to play around with different objects to see what really makes the photo POP! It’s important to remember that you’re always going to be learning and evolving within your skills when it comes to blogging and photography so have fun with it. Try different objects, angles the whole bit, and don’t feel like you have to use all the same things in every photo. What are your favorite props for blog photos and where do you get them? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by, until next time…
