My Travel Essentials

Hey guys! Hope you’re doing well! I’ve got a pretty busy week coming up, I’m traveling to Montana on Friday morning. Which for my non-american readers, is all the way on the other side of the country. It’ll be my first cross country trip, and I’m pretty anxious about it if I’m honest. We all know by now that a lot of things make me anxious. I jump to worse case scenario every time. It’s even worse with traveling because, there is a lot I don’t have control over. So I thought it’d be helpful for those who also experience travel anxiety to know what I find absolutely essential to bring with me. My only disclaimer is, check with your airline about what is acceptable to take on the actual plane with you. It’ll be different depending on where you’re flying and who you’re flying with. It’s better to have all of that sorted before you get to the airport so you have one less thing to worry about.

Required Items

I’ve not flown much in my life, and honestly the last time was about a decade ago so things have certainly changed. You want to make sure all you required information like, ticket, Photo ID, and money are all easily accessible to cut down on the stress of fumbling around your bag. Again, check with you airline but you may even be able to put your ticket and boarding pass directly on your phone. You can typically check in for your flight 24 hours before take off. I’m going to check into my flight on my way to the airport, so that’s one less line I need to stand in.

As soon as you get through security, it’ll be helpful to make a game plan of where you need to be and where you are. This way you can figure out the most efficient way to complete all the tasks you need to before your flight.

My Must Haves

Since I’ll be traveling alone AND I experience travel anxiety, it’s important for me to bring things that allow me to relax. However, I also want to be conscious of the amount of space I have both in my seat and in my bag. This is where technology comes in handy. I plan on bringing my Ipad mini along with my AirPods so that I have access to everything I could want.

I’ll have access to my music, my podcasts, audiobooks, and tv/movies through my airline carrier. Having all of these will allow me to essentially zone out during the parts that make me anxious. I’ll also be bringing some skincare with me for while I’m either on the plane or during my layover. You guys know from my skincare routine that I work too hard on my skin to have an airplane dry it out!

Your Mindset

My last travel essential is a positive mindset. Traveling is scary, there is no doubt about that. There are a lot of things you can’t control and for some of us that triggers our anxiety even more. Like I mentioned above, that’s one of my triggers and it’s been getting to me pretty badly. However it’s important to remember what you’re traveling for. Or who you’re traveling to.

For me, I’m traveling to my best friend Keira (we’ve talked about her here on the blog before) and I’m watching her marry the love of her life. I get to stand beside her, as her maid of honor and see her embark on a new journey. So when I start to feel anxious, or like I can’t handle it all. I’ll remember that in a few short hours I’ll be hugging my best friend and my niece for the first time in over a year.

What’s essential for you when traveling? Do you suffer from travel anxiety? How do you cope with it? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for stopping by, until next time…

  1. I’m going to be travelling next week so this post came in perfect timing. I’ve got to really think about what I want to pack especially in my hand luggage. One tip I have is using a document pouch to keep everything in one place so you can just grab it and go. I wish you a safe flight lovely and hope you enjoy your trip!

  3. I hope you have the best time at the wedding! I always pack skincare, I’m dry before takeoff so I’m usually destroyed by landing. I wish I could offer you some tips but I love flying, it’s genuinely one of my favourite things and I feel so calm in the sky (I even like turbulence?). I think you have a good plan with lots of things to keep your mind occupied and entertained. I hope the process goes smoothly for you! x

  4. Fab post lovely! I never have any clue on what to pack, especially when flying. I have such awful anxiety around flying due to getting really blinding headaches. I love an ipad for travelling, always gives me some distraction. Have the best time lovely! I’m sure you’ll do great.

You’ll do great! I hope you have a wonderful time standing by your BFF watching her get married! I actually love flying, it’s just the checking in and going through security that makes me nervous (because I’m nervous about not doing it correctly). I listen to music or read a book to zone out too.
