The 12 Days of Blogmas Day 1: Decorating Small Spaces

Hey Guys! I hope you’re doing well. It’s that time of the year again (my favorite time) it’s time for BLOGMAS! In November when I was planning out all my December content & figuring out the best schedule for me, I came to the conclusion that 3 posts a week was going to be obtainable for me. Blogmas is suppose to be a fun time where you share holiday content with your audience, if posting everyday is too overwhelming find a schedule that works for you! So like I said, 3 days a week works for me which turned out to be 12 posts in the month of December hence “The 12 Days of Blogmas.” During each day of blogmas, you’ll be getting a new holiday themed post and you’ll also be receiving a free “present” of sorts. Gifts range from coupon codes, to printable games or printable planning sheets, just little things from me to you. Now that i’ve done this long winded introduction to blogmas, let’s get into day 1, decorating small spaces.

Whether you live with your parents, rent a studio apartment or live with a bunch of grinches decorating a small area can be a bit daunting. You don’t want to get anything to large in fear of your area looking cluttered. However, you also don’t want to get things too small in fear of it looking childish. So how do you make your small living space a festive wonderland?

Decorating Bookcase

Pick a Theme

When decorating a small area, I always find it best to pick a theme. Do you want one stand out color surrounded by neutrals? Do you want the traditional red & green look? Is your style more glitzy & glittery or farmhouse rustic? I believe your living area is the perfect place to express yourself so you’ll want a theme that signifies what Christmas means to you.

Establishing a theme makes every aspect of decorating go much smoother. This will help everything in your space will blend together cohesively instead of looking like a big mish mash of decor. Which in turn, with be more cost efficient.

Wreath Decorating

Have Focal Pieces

As I mentioned in the beginning, you don’t want to have pieces that are all big or all small. Having a mixture of both will help create an inviting environment. Select one or two areas in your space that can be home to your focal pieces. Focal pieces will be the items that you maybe invest a little more in, like your tree or christmas figurines.

For me, my focal pieces are my tree and my wreath. When you walk into my bedroom, those are the pieces that I want your eyes to be drawn too. By surrounding them with small wall decal signs, your eyes are drawn to them but they don’t over power the space.

Lights, Lights and More Lights

My favorite part of decorating for Christmas is the lights that are involved. String lights help create a warm and cozy environment that will go along great with the feelings of comfort Christmas already brings. I feel that they can actually help make your small space feel much bigger and more like your safe place.

One of the best parts about string lights is how inexpensive they are. You can get a string for about $5 dollars and that’ll wrap around your tree twice. I personally put lights throughout my wreath, my tree and on my bookcase. This way every spot that has decorations is also accompanied by the warmth of string lights. Also if taken care of properly, meaning you remove batteries at the end of the season these lights can last you for years.

On the first day of Blogmas Mich gave to you, 75% OFF MY ENTIRE STORE with the code Blogmas. I will keep this coupon code running for the entire month of December so you’ll have plenty of time to take advantage of it. I hope you’re excited for this years 12 Days of Blogmas, I know I am.
